In the care of Carillon City Dental we can provide you with two choices of professional teeth whitening. You can choose to make use of the convenience of our Take-Home Whitening kit, or you can choose to have In-Chair Whitening.

Before going ahead with whitening you must be up to date with all dental treatment (fillings etc.) as whitening can accelerate decay and cause you sensitivity. We also recommend a scale and clean before whitening to get the best results!

Take-Home Whitening

Take-Home whitening kits can be provided to you by your dentist and done in the comfort of your own home. We provide you with custom trays which fit the individual shape of your teeth as well as several applications of dental strength whitening gel.

Take-home whitening allows you to have more control over how white you would like your teeth – once you have reached your desired shade simply stop using the whitening gel.

If you generally have sensitive teeth this may be a good option for you.

In-Chair Whitening

In-Chair whitening is a professional whitening technique which can only be offered by a dentist. Here at Carillon City Dental we use Philips Zoom! In-Chair Whitening system.

Results are achieved by the combination of Hydrogen Peroxide gel and a specially designed visible LED light lamp. This technique can only be offered in our clinic, takes 1 hour (4 rounds of 15 minute intervals) and can change your teeth up to 8 shades whiter!

If you are unsure about which whitening option would be best suited for you, book in for a consultation to learn more and ask any questions you may have.

A veneer is a white material (porcelain) that is placed over the front of your tooth to change the shade, shape, size and sometimes improve the position. This is usually done on the front teeth to improve your smile. A small layer of your enamel is removed to create room for the veneer to be placed.

Veneers are custom made from a dental ceramic laboratory and take 1-2 weeks to have your final smile. Temporary veneers are provided until your permanent veneers can be placed.

An inlay or an onlay is an alternative to a filling when a large portion of the tooth has to be removed. This is a good option to replace large fillings as it provides more strength then a traditional filling as it is made of porcelain or gold.

Crown and Bridge

For a crown to be made you will require to come for 2 visits. In your first visit your tooth will be prepared by cutting away a small layer of your tooth and an impression will be made to send to the lab (where the crown is made). This appointment will usually take 1 hour. At the end of this appointment you will leave with a temporary crown until your permanent crown has been made.

Your next appointment will be approximately 2 weeks after the preparation, in this appointment the dentist will try in the crown and if you and they are happy it will cemented in permanently.

Reasons to consider a crown:

  • Root Canal Treated tooth
  • Large filling in a tooth
  • Cracked tooth
  • Aesthetics

A crown can be made out of different materials, gold, full ceramic or metal and ceramic. Your dentist will discuss with you what would be option the best for you.

A bridge is one of the options that can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. The two teeth either side of where the missing tooth (or teeth) are crowned and extra teeth – made out of porcelain or gold – are added to the middle.

A bridge is recommended as an option when one or two teeth are missing but as more teeth are missing and the span of the bridge becomes longer the strength of the bridge decreases and we would recommend other options for you.
